In addition to a new school for the students and teachers, the superintendent will
have a new office and facility for administration. The board, in their business
meeting following the tour, voted to purchase the former church building at 505
Texas Avenue for administration offices.
The possible purchase of the property had been discussed at earlier board meetings
but no final decision was made. Superintendent Lawrence said he made an offer of
$125,000 to the owners and they accepted, but he couldn't finalize the deal until
the board gave its approval.
He said the building would need some renovations, but he believed it would be a good
investment and would be closer to the new school. He said the building has plenty of
space for offices and storage.
Lawrence indicated that he and his staff could actually move in and be in operation
even before the renovations are made. Lawrence also told the board that the sale of
the current administration building/ house would more than cover the cost of the new
building and renovations. "I think it is too good of an opportunity to pass up," he
said.
Trustee Laura Kaspar said she would like to have more information on the floor
plans, renovations and additional costs to update the building, but joined the
majority in a 5-1 vote to make the purchase. Gloria Reindl cast the no vote. Michael
Huser was absent.
