School opening could be delayed

The opening of the new school is scheduled for December, but it could be Spring Break before it opens, according to architect Jim Singleton. Pictured above is the gym's north side classroom area.

Architect Jim Singleton gave his usual monthly school building progress report to the SISD Board at their meeting, August 9.

He said Sterling Structures is doing a good job. "They have some good crews," he said. "I'm pleased."

Singleton said the root' should be completed in another week and the dressing room area should be 100 percent complete next month.

Michael Huser asked if everything was still on line for a December completion.

"We're trying for December 20," said Singleton. "But we can't have any bad weather days or construction delays. If these occur we may run into January, probably middle of January," he said.

He suggested that the board may have to reconsider the timing of the 'move in' and set it for spring. Singleton said everyone is hopeful for the December completion but wanted the board to know that there may be a delay.

Superintendent Trey Lawrence said he took some of the teaches for a walk thru of the classrooms and everyone was pleased.

Board president, Denise Overton said she was impressed with the view from the upper level windows. "There is no bad view from any of the upper level windows,"' she said.

Singleton suggested that the board begin their September meeting at the new school to get a first hand view of the complex.

The board approved this month's construction payment of $741,684.

Some of the big money items included fire pump and fire line, masonry work, framing and sheathing and pre engineered metal buildings and fire sprinkler system.
