GIDDINGS - Heather Haas tossed a one-hit shutout and Shiner backed her with a 14- hit attack as the Lady Comanches whipped Thorndale 12-0 in five innings and wrapping up the Class 1A regional semifinal series Saturday afternoon.
Shiner wins the best-of-three series 2-0 after winning the first game 5-2. The Lady Comanches will face Bosqueville in the regional final.
Haas struck out seven and issued just one walk while going 2-for-3 at the plate with two RBIs.
Paige Michalec (2-for-3, three runs), Alyssa Strauss (2-for-4, two runs, three RBIs), Maci Schaefer (2-for-4, two RBIs), Ieisha Flowers (2-for-3, two runs) and Amber Shimek (2-for-3) were the other top hitters for Shiner (20-4).
"We played like we are capable of playing," Shiner coach Brandon Siegel said. "After the long layoff, I was worried in the first game. We were rusty and it showed.
"This time it was the normal Shiner team I usually see," he added. "They made the plays and executed."
Thorndale ends the year at 13-6.
Megan Cejka and Taylor Hajek also had singles for Shiner.
