Brooks, Shiner rip 'Cats 61-6 for first win of season

Five weeks of frustrations for Shiner came to an end last Friday ( September 29, 2023 ) as the Comanches rolled over Bloomington 61-6 for their first win of the season and evened their district record at 1-1.

Senior running back Tahj Brooks had a break-out game as he scored four of Shiner's nine touchdowns, rushing 10 times for 253 yards.Trace Bishop ran for 70 yards and two touchdowns. Jake Simper, filled in for Carson Schuette at quarterback, running for 60 yards and two touchdowns. Rakin Waillace added 96 yards and a score. Quincy Jones, Chase Malinovsky and Jordan Harrison also contributed rushing yards.

Shiner ran for a season-high 516 yards on 50 carries getting over 10 yards a carry.

Bloomington was unable to run the ball, having a net rushing total of minus-6 yards but had 196 yards passing and one touchdown.

The first quarter belonged to Brooks as he had touchdown runs of 54, 63 and 20 yards. The Comanches managed just one score in the second quarter, a 62-yard run by Wallace.

Shiner had a third-quarter explosion with a 2-yard run by Simper, a 50-yard run by Brooks, Bishop scoring on a 10-yard run and Simper getting a 49-yard run. The Bobcats' score came with 2:59 left in the third on a 25-yard pass from Jesus Zuniga to Sean Darby,

Shiner added another score in the fourth quarter - a 12-yard run by Bishop.
