Comanches get after Burton in final scrimmage

Shiner hosted Burton in the second pre-season scrimmage Thursday evening ( August 17, 2023 ) at Comanche Stadium.

As usually is the case in the second and final scrimmage, Shiner did some things better and still has to work on other things.
"I thought we got after it a little bit. We improved on some things we saw in last week's scrimmage (at Tidehaven). Our tackling was a little bit better and a little more consistent; we still had some missed tackles," Comanches head Daniel Boedeker said. "On the offensive line, they were feeling their way around and we had to jump on them a little bit to get set at the line of scrimmage. Once they got more comfortable, we did some good things. Still have a way to go and have to improve one week at a time."
Boedeker is happy with the direction the team is headed in.
"Our knowledge of assignments is getting better and this allows us to play faster. Our technique has to improve, which will come with reps in practice and then game reps on game night," he said.
Shiner outscored Burton 3-1 overall with the Shiner first and second offenses each scoring one touchdown during the controlled scrimmage. The Comanches scored once during the 12-minute, live-quarter scrimmage.
Burton's second-team offense scored during the controlled scrimmage for the lone Panther touchdown.
The Shiner first offense scored on a 32-yard run and the second-offense scored on a 1-yard run. Shiner scored on a 5-yard run during the live quarter.
Shiner's second-team defense got an interception in the controlled scrimmage and Burton picked off a pass in the live quarter.
For the Comanches on offense, they ran a total of 40 plays for 275 yards, had16 first downs, ran 34 times for 253 and three touchdowns, and went 2-for-6 passing for 22 yards and one interception. Shiner was flagged three times for 30 yards.
Burton ran 26 offensive plays for 140 yards, seven first downs, 18 rushes for 118 yards and went 3-for-8 passing for 26 yards, one touchdown and one interception. The Panthers had one penalty for five yards.
Shiner starts the regular season tomorrow ( Friday, August 25, 2023 ) at 7:30 p.m. home to Hallettsville.
