Class 2A-DI Area Playoff
Shiner vs. Moody
7:30 p.m. Friday (November 20, 2015) at Cub Stadium, Brenham
The Shiner Comanches play a Moody squad that is an improved team than at the start of the season.
"They are a little like Flatonia. They have come on late in the season," Shiner head coach Steven Cerny said.
Moody runs the spread attack and is very balanced.
"With their running game, they like the zone, the zone read and sweeps plays," Cerny said. "They run all kinds of passes."
Quarterback Toby Smith has thrown for 1,966 yards for 16 touchdowns and 11 interceptions. He has rushed for 458 yards and six touchdowns.
Also leading the running attack is RJ Haynes who has 509 yards and four touchdowns; Ernest Stith, Jr. has 389 yards and six touchdowns.
Top receiver on the team is Jordan Tatro who has 432 yards and four touchdowns.
Cerny said the Moody offense is opportunistic and takes whatever advantage they can get from the defensive play or formation.
"We need to play our assignments correctly. Our secondary is going to be isolated in one-on-one matchups. We must have condfidence in them," he said.
On defense, Moody runs the split and has recently seen an offense similar to Shiner in their bi-district game last week against veer-offense Johnson City.
"They will switch to the five-man front and bring the outside linebackers,"Cerny said. "Our offense needs to control the line of scrimmage."
