SHINER -- Ray Gates and the Shiner Comanches dominated the Charlotte Trojans as the top-ranked Class 1A team rolled to a 37-0 victory in a District 30-1A contest at Comanche Stadium.
The Comanches remained unbeaten at 8-0 overall and 3-0 in district. Gates, who rushed for 258 yards on 19 carries, blasted into the end zone on the Comanches' first offensive play, rambling 59 yards for the score. Kyler Johnson added the point after for a 7-0 lead.
Travis Wright, who added 41 yards on 11 carries, then bulled in from a yard out following a Gates 45-yard scamper as the Comanches went up 14-0 after Johnson's extra point.
Gates added two more scoring runs in the second quarter, racing 13 and 7 yards for the touchdowns. Gates and Wright hooked up for the 2-point conversion following Gates' 13-yarder and Wright found David Evans for another 2-pointer and a 30-0 halftime advantage.
Wright finished the scoring with 9:59 to play slashing in from 11 yards out.
